About Jay Michael
Jay Michael has practiced his talent of hair styling
for over two decades. He is known not only for his precision cuts but his ability to create an individual look for each of his clients. Jay takes the time to consult with each of his clients in order to learn about their lifestyles, hair preferences and most importantly, their expectations.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Jay was taking college courses while working in the music industry as a professional musician and song writer. One day a friend asked Jay to accompany him to his hair cut appointment downtown. When Jay walked into the upscale Center City salon he experienced a sort of epiphany, He knew that the environment and atmosphere in the bustling salon was where he felt the most energized. The very next week Jay enrolled in beauty school. After graduation, Jay began working at the John Kenneth Salon where he spent several years before opening his own salon in 1985.
The Jay Michael Salon in Bala Cynwyd quickly became “the place to go.” Jay along with his staff of talented and skilled professional stylists and colorists garnered a reputation that brought many years of success. People came from all over the Delaware Valley, and his client base read as a “who’s who” of Philadelphia’s top names.
Jay being the visionary that he is began planning ways to expand his successful salon. When the Suburban Square location in Ardmore Pennsylvania became available Jay felt that this kind of opportunity only comes along once in a lifetime. Jay decided to leave behind a comfortable, safe situation for a challenging opportunity to expand upon his name and reputation.
The Jay Michael Salon and Spa opened in its new location at Suburban Square on August 1st 2006. Just as Jay imagined, it was the right decision. Complacency can be comforting, but challenge and change is exciting.
Jay has trained in New York City as well as Paris, France and still tries to get to Paris once a year to advance his skills and learn new techniques.
